Ethnicity 8E

Read the following quotation:

"My mother’s mother was German
My mother’s father was Danish
My father’s mother was African American/Native American
My father’s father was Filipino/Chinese
I was born in Brooklyn, New York"

Respond to this quote. What comes to mind?

Think about...
What ethnicity is this person? What point is this person trying to make? What kind of life do you think this person may live? What kind of experiences do you think this person has everyday?

i think that the point this person is trying to make is that they don't belong to any category and that they should stop trying to categorize people

We once talked about how must people dont refer to Sam Mortons given "races". This person must not categorize themselves by ethnicity. This person in the quote probably agrees that you cannot determine race by physical features aswell as you cannot determine ethnicity by the place their ancestors roamed. This person probably does not live life by ethnicity and race but just by his name.

The point that I think the person is trying to make is that. Its not what you look like on the outside it what you are in the inside. You might look like one of the races but when someone ask what you are then they are going to be shocked because they might had thought that your race was black, white or all the others.

What comes to my mind is this person has a lot of different ethnicities.Witch shows that you cant tell someone who and what they are by the way they look or speak, because like this person many people are made of different things.

Also its not right to categorize people just the way they look. It what you know.

When I read that quote, the thing that comes to mind is that people loved each other no matter what race they were. I wonder how the child turned out to look like. This is a very interesting quote.

Note-

-Mom's father and mother must have had trouble with each other. Back in that time, there were Jews in Denmark and the Nazi's (Germans) were there too. I don't know how they did it.

- I also don't know how the father's father married an African American. This must have been part of Segregation when the Asians and the Blacks were together. Good times..

- The child is mixed race. (European, African, Asian, Native American)

this person is a hole mixture of things and she probably looks only one of these and if someone calls them one of these things i bet they get kind of mad because they belong to a whole lot of places and she doesn't want to be judged on their looks they want to be known for what they are. I bet the person can speak a lot of languages because they are from all those different places, but she probably doesn't know about all her ethnic back rounds and there fore cant speak all of the languages.

i think this qoute was trying to mention of how the boy has diffrent backround but didn't look like it.What comes to mind to me when i read this book is when people try to prove that you should not judge because it doesn't matter where you come from and what you like you can be diffrent from judement of what person thinkd you are.

THIS PERSONS ETHNICITY IS DANISH, AFRICAN AMERICAN AND NATIVE AMERICAN. THE POINT THAT THIS PERSON IS TRYING TO MAKE IS THAT THERE FAMILY HAVE ORIGINATED FROM MANY PLACES AND HE/SHE COULD MAKE BE MANY THINGS. PEOPLE ASKING HIM /HER WHAT THERE ETHNICITY IS AND THEY HAVE TO MAKE UP THERE MIND OF WHAT THEY ARE.

The thing that comes to my mind is the word diversity. This comes to my mind because this person has a lot of diversity in his family. With this many cultures in his family it must be hard for his to choose a specific ethnicity.I think that he is trying to say that its not fair to people with more than 1 back ground. You cant really choose a back ground if you a group to be placed in if you are part something else. I think that this person really ha to make a lot of decision on which ethnicity they would choose but it isnt fair over all. They cant just pick 1 and say your Danish if your half German. SO i believe that the classification system should be more specific or have more choices to choose.

This person is american to me because she has to many races just to say i'm greman american or i'm danish american theres no point just nere it down to American
'cause thats basically what she mainly is.
The point this person is trying to make is that she has alot of races so when people be putting people in groups by their race she basically saying that she doesn't have a ethnicity.
Honestly i think this persom lives a great life life if she doesn't judge people or people don't judge her and she probably lives a horrible life 'cause she wants to be with certain groups but they don't let her 'cause she a whole lot of nationalitys.

I think this person has mixed ethnicity she might say she's only one but she is mixed. she don't belong in only one race she belongs in a lot of different races. I think the point this person is trying to make is that people should not be putting people in categories because they don't know if they belong in different ethnic background not only the one they are putting them in. The kind of life i think this person lives in is that she does all these different things because of the different races she has. I also think that this person life is sometimes hard because of all the different races and that some people might make her or him feel weird. I think that the experiences she live everyday is that different cultures, ethnicities make people unique.

i think that the person that quoted this is german/danish/african american/native american/filipino and chinese.
i think this person is trying to say that there are more than the simple ethnicitys. i also think he goes threw life with a struggle because of the stero types of his culture.

What comes to my mind after reading this quote is that this person is a German-Danish-African American-Native American-Filipino-Chinese person. I can't really imagine what that person would look like with that many ethnic backgrounds. A person with that many ethnic backgrounds might not have people to believe them when they let another person know that they are part of all those cultures. I wonder what they would do when they have a flag day at their school. Would he/she bring every single flag that day? Would he/she just not go? It would real hard to live the life of a German-Danish-African American-Native American-Filipino-Chinese in America.

the thing that comes to my mind is that this person has more then one back round. he caries all sorts of cultures and languges he could master beacuse they are part of his ethnicity. i think this person is saying that all people weather white or black may carie as many as three diffrent blood lines and that we shouldn't judge any one by there race. i think he lives a normal life. tough but normal. tough because he lives in Brooklyn, New York and may have had a couple of hard battles while growing up this is what i think about him and the quotation that he had said.

WHAT I THINK THIS PERSON IS TRYING TO SAY IS THAT THEY WHERE BORN WITH MANY DIFFERENT BACKGROUNDS.THEY ARE TRYING TO SAY THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE NOT ONLY ONE RACE THEY ARE MIXED WITH SO MANY.THE KIND OF LIFE THAT THIS PERSON LIVED WAS A HARD BECAUSE OF THEY ARE MIXED WITH SO MUCH THAT PEOPLE TRY TO PUT THEN IN AN GROUP BY WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE BUT THEY MAY NOT BE ABLE TO BECAUSE HEY MAY HAVE CH INKY EYES LIKE CHINESE HAIR LIKE AN AFRICAN AMARICAN BUT SKIN TONE OF AN GERMAN.
