"Race" and the world.
Why do you think we, as a society, put so much emphasis on categorizing people by their "race"? Explain and give examples.

I really do not know why is it that us as a society bring so much pressure on other race besides our own like i guess sometimes people just want to stick to there people some may feel more protected then to be with another race.
I think they say this because we are all different people. This meaning we all have different cultures color and more. They call people a certain race to signify there back Even though i think that were all just people.
I think we put so much emphasis on categorizing people apoun race because the way we grew up and the things we learned about over the years put out minds into state where we'll say "Oo I'm black, or oo I know that guy he's white not spanish!!!"
I think people do that a lot to know how people are and their personalities based on their race. But one thing I seen on T.V. was that this American was discriminating a Mexican because he was an outsider. He thought the Mexican was a terrorist because of what had happened on September 11. Since that all outsiders to him are bad people who want to hurt America. I think that's not right because one person does something doesn't mean we are all the same. Poeple can't make assumptions because of someones race.
I think so because I feel some people could be jealous. Just because some look different people will judge you. It doesn't matter if your a different race or not. They will just judge you cause you look different. People just want to talk. Thats why I think they categorize to that race.
I think that we as a society, put so much emphasis on a categorizing people by their race. The reason why I think so is because were so busy trying to be the top one that we find it easy just to put people in categories. They don't take that time to think and realize that we are all the same. We eat the same things, we all go to work, we all go to school, but i guess since it was something that was created along time ago people didn't want or have the time to change it. I think that because we want to make sure that people know were we come from, we decide to leave like that.
I don't really know why but certain people just like categorizing people there race to know what they stand out for. Sometimes people just like basing the person as there race an example can be "oh look at at that white person"most people would not say colored they would be specific. I guess another reason is since "Race" has been involved and in many cases for a long period of time thats why we categorize it alot.
I think people categorize people by their race because most or a lot of black and African-American ancester, are from the carribains and they're skin color is a little dark. But people that are amybe light skinned people think there automatically white. People don't like it either but they do anyways people always do it but probably not when people could see. When people is being judged by they're skin color they probably think that their lower then other surrounding them, people that judge people by there skin color lowers there self-estem.
We put some much emphasis on profiling people by there race for many reasons. There are things that happened in the past, that we do not want to happen again. We do not want the past to repeat itself and bring back the horror, pain, frustration, death, and sorrow. The Civil War is an example of that and Jena Six is the reason why we put emphasis. We have been making the mistake of recognizing the "African American" discrimination, and taking it for granted in a way. There have been more acts like "The Disabled Act" relating to disabled. Profiling and categorizing is no a good thing and, it makes people feel left out.
I think people still categorize each other by race because of what happen in the segration days between the Blacks and the Whites. I guess people still feel like it still going on today.
I think they say this because when they look at some one they look at there skin color and say this person is from this race for example a lot of people with dark color skin and some people say they are black but that not true because a lot of dark people come from different country some of them could be Hispanic,jamaican or other type of skin color. So that not right to say this person is this race because some time people could get mad because they are another race to.
Ms.Geradla i think the reason is so that we don't consider everyone the same, whaty i mean by that is most people dont want to be putnin the same catorgie as others so we figure if we putthen into catorigies then it will be better because not all of us are african americans and not all of us are native american americans so if we all was just called african americans then that wouldn't be fair to people who aren't even from africa for exapmles the whites or asians, or even the hispnics so that is one reason why i think we spend so much time on emphasis on categirizing people. another big reason i think is because of the person economy i say that because most people think that all african americans are poor and whites are all rich and that to me also has to do with why we spend time categorizing people by they race because of where they come from.
I really don't understand why we the people do this and we always talk about we want peace . But we stay sterotyping other races and different colored people and when you think about it sterotyping and race actually does create violence.We stay judeing people by the color of there skin and till this day we still may never know why.Maybe that's just who we are.

Yes we're all people but think if we were back to times where some people weren't categorized as people what would be your perspective then?
