First Ammendment
What does "freedom of Religion mean"? Why might this freedom be important to people. Give example of current events or situations that connect with freedom of religion.

The Freedom of religion means that you can practice any kind of religion you want with out being scared of what the government might say. It also means that the government can't tell you what religion you need to be. One current event is in Burma i think, they can't even have the freedom of speech so i don't think that they have the freedom of religion. Over the past years i heard of some situations that could connect to the freedom of religion, probably back in the day when they was making or before they was making the constitution.
Freedom of religion means people outside of the christn religion can practice their religion with out anybody saying anything to them and they can't get arrested for this. This freedom is important because not everybody believes in the same things religion wise so this freedom helps them go through with their religion leagly with out anybody saying anything to them
what i think freedom of religion is a act of your on religion. That mean if you come from a different area that dose or follow something different then the have the right to still do those things in another country without the people saying that other country saying something.
Freedom of religon means to choose your own beleafe and things like that.this might be importent to people becaues some people beleaves in certain things. Like back in the day you had to be in a certain religon and things like that. Or when they said romney cant be president because of his religion.
Freedom of religion means that u got the freedom to praise God, go to church. It might be important to people because it might be there religion to go to church and etc.The current event are that they go to church, Praise God, dress different, talk different,and etc.
Freedom of Religion is when people have the right to use their religion. Also you can be able to express your Religion. It's important to people because the people would feel like they matter. Freedom of Religion is like Freedom of speech. You can say what you feel by using your religion. If someone protest they could use their Religion because its an the amendment.
Freedom religion mean that people have the right to be what ever religion they want to be. They could pay for who ever the would like to and the government can say any thing about it.Like what happen to the monks.
I forgot about that story, but your right he didn't want to go to war because of his religion and they was making a big deal about it. I have one question, didn't they make the constitution before that happened?
Freedom of religion mean you have the right to believe in your own religion what i mean by that is say if you were living in north korea and you only believe in one rule and he/ she was the only one who u thought you could worship and then one day you diecied to come to america and you see that we have a president, a government and so on if you still want to only believe in your rule just only ruling our country then you will but your just going to have to follow our rules. freedom of religion might be imporant to people because as citizen and human some of us are from different places in the world and some of us are catholic, jewish, christian, and so on and because we have different religion we have a dfferent viarety of churches we can attend and that is a good thing because maybe a christian might want to see what it's like to go to a catholic church and they would have the chance because we have different churches with different religion

So, after reading your response, I get the idea that the government cannot dictate what religion people should have, but does the first amendment protect citizens from other citizens? Explain?
Freedom of religion in my perspective, means that you as a citizen have the right or the freedom to choose what you believe in. You have the freedom to believe if you believe in god or if you worship the sun or whatever you believe in. You have the freedom and right to believe in something without being harassed, interrogated or bothered about it. This is what i think freedom of religion is. This freedom is very important to citizens because his means that the government doesn't have the power to dictate and chose what we the citizens believe in. They cannot tell us that we or right or that we are wrong for believing or worshiping who or what we want to. An example in society today is the problem in Burma with the monks. They didn't have the right to protests quietly because they don't have the same rules that we have but if they were under the U.S constitution things would be different. They would not have been killed or attacked because they spoke up or showed how they felt because they would also have freedom of assembly.
Freedom of religion is a guarantee by a government of freedom of belief for individuals and freedom of worship for individuals and groups. It is usally recognized to also include the freedom not to follow any religion. Freedom of religion is considered by many in many nations and people to be a fundamental human right.
What freedom of religion mean to me is to let people belive in what they think is right for them for example some people do not belive in god and that ok because that there religion or like you need to do something for the rest of your life like one of my friend her name is Mesareilys and she always have to were skirt but that do not bother me because that her religion and i am not going to tread her like a different person because of that that what i think freedom of religion means to me.
Freedom of Religion is very important because it represents who you are as a person. With freedom of religion people have the right to express their own perspective and be themselves. There are many religions like Misareilys her religion they can't wear pants, which is christian. But me I'm catholic in my religion i am free to wear pants and skirts whatever i desire as long as it's not inappropriate. Just like Martin Luther king in the old days they judge people by their color skin that was very racist. Now these days people judge people by their religion, like Samolians, they judge them because they wear hujabs (the things on their head a scarf kind of).
Freedom of speech means to me that every American is free to to follow the Religion and not learn any other religion. This may be important because no one may not want to learn anyone else religion they might want to stick with their own religion. Also because no one should have to change their religion for anyone or what makes them who they are.
Marsha, Remember what happened to Mohammad Ali when the government wanted him to enter the draft? Do you think that it was a violation of his First Amendment right? Explain?
Freedom of religion is when people can express their religion freely.Also this is important to people because some people's religion is like apart of them and they do it everyday.like for an example like some religions they have to pray everyday at a certain time and when people let them do that.
ms.jackson i think it kind of protect citizens from other citizens because its saying you can be in any kind of religion no matter what people say. Plus its not because people do critasize peoples religion so thats something you can't stop

I think it is violation because if the first amendment says freedom of religion and the religion has something to do with the draft for war he has the right to not go. It's what he stands for and that's not fair for him, his family and the people of that same religion.
I don't think it does but in a way i does. The reason why i say no is because now people can say anything they want to another citizen and the government wont care. But i also think yes because if you look at the amendment "Freedom of the Press" it says that people cannot say bad things the would ruin somebody's reputation, so the first amendment protects us in different levels. But i think that it mostly protects us against the government.

NO I DON'T THINK THAT IT WAS A VIOLATION OF HIS RIGHTS BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T TELL HIM TAT HE COULDN'T STILL WORSHIP IN HIS RELIGION AND THEY IS THE GOVERNMENT.

An example of this in today's society are the monks of Burma. They did not have the right to speak out because they don't have freedom of religion, freedom of speech, or freedom of assembly. If is wasn't for freedom of religion then we probably have this much diversity that we have in the US today. Well I actually believe that sometimes freedom of religion is also a bad thing. Though we get too practice our religion we also get judge by our religion. Now of the 9/11 attack and the war going on if your practice a middle eastern religion that 9 times out of 10 people are going to think your a terrorist. I'm not saying that's it's cool to judge people on what you think you know or because of a person of a certain religion did something wrong to then judge all people who practice that religion. Back to the question, it's important to that people of different religions to practice freedom of religion because if we say"no, their is only one religion you can practice!" Then it will look like a dictatorship and our nation is run under a democracy.
YES!!!! I think that is violation this first amendment right.They gave Ali a ham sandwich and in the muslim religion they can't eat ham. In the reading it says the person who the sandwich new he couldn't eat it ,but the gave it ti him any way
Well though it's their religion the government should have the right to step in on this because their religion may ask them to attempt suicide and we don't want nobody killing them selves so as long as they're not doing something to harm them or other people than it's alright to practice there religion.
yes it was a violation on his first Ammendment and everyone else who got drafted in the army i say that because there are a lot of other people's religion who don't approve of the war or anything else for that matter and you have the government who is still trying to go around the freedom of religion by forcing people into the draft and so on so yes it is a violation to the first ammendment and as a president and government and leaders of the united states and other nations the should know all the ammendments and know that there doing something that is wrong expecially considering the fact that they where the ones who help approved this ammendment

The government doesn't HAVE the right to but they can help, because yes we have the right to follow what we want but if the religion causes harm to the person or the government then the government can step in and say something about it. it also ties into someones rights to because when the constitution gave us our rights, they really can't start to take them away so it's confusing in a way but......
I think the government can't jump in because again FREEDOM OF RELIGION is what people believe in and have to stick to. I think it is a violation to the first amendment; the first is meant for the citizen to be accepted and like a human in the that country, but then again they can because people can't always keep back because there religion
If someones religion telling someone something that may harm themselves or others the government can try help but, they really can't do anything about it because it is their religion and thats what they believe in and no one can change that.

Ms.jackson the first amendment really do not protect the citizen from other citizen because is talking about religion and other things is us say what right do citizen have but is not protecting them.
