Message Song: "Self Destruction"

What messages did you hear in the "Stop the Violence" song?
Do you think it was effective? (Do you think that people would listen to the song and think twice about committing crimes?)

i think that the song ids pretty good and if the violence that is happening right now was happening when that song came out i would think it would have made a difference and people would stop the violence.

The song was telling us how weird it is fearing people of our color. And they told us about how people are stealing from each other.I think this song is very affective because these people are from the same type of places we are, it makes them seem educated and I'm sure a lot of people respected their wisdom. I'm also sure that it broke a lot of stereotypes of Urban kids being uneducated.

I think that the stop the violence song was effective back in that time. The reason i say that is because the rappers in that video were really popular back in that time so that every one who was really a fan of hip hop or in the black community really listen to the message they were giving out.

A message i heard was if your not standing at a door of a club why you have a gun? MC Lite said that. I think it was effective because I think that would have people thinking twice. Also it just makes since because thats the only reason you should have a weapon and if your in the army or if your a cop and if your a bouncer. YOU HAVE FIST TO PROTECT YOUR SELF A GUN OF VIOLENCE IS THE WAY TO SHOW YOUR A PUNK.

The message that i heard on the "stop the violence" song was to stop the violence and that you might get good thing at first but after you end bad.No i don't think this is effective because is for there god and is something that people want to stop "THE VIOLENCE". Yes i think that people would hear the song think about how bad they doing or might help other to stop the violence.

I think the song was very effective in its time. I believe this because in its lyrics it talks about all the crime that was going on and the effects of it. Im not really sure if people would think twice before committing a crime. It all depends on the person who is doing the crime because they are some people who will never change and people who are willing to change. This song would be more effective because it had the largest stars of its time sing it.

Well I heard almost nothing because the video had bad quality. But then I looked at the lyrics. Well the strongest message I heard in the song is "ya headed for self destruction" because I know that it is true.

I think that the song is not effective at this time period. It was effect back in the time though. If I was in the 70's or something, I would think that it is effective. Too bad I'm in the future.

Deysha if the song made an affect why is there still violence? I feel like the song was respected by a lot of people but did not inspire the right ones.

i heard violence is not cool.
violence is not you fight with your hand Pop pop pop when it's shot.
kinda. sometimes because the song make you think about how you will feel if it was your family and how you will feel. some change there mind some don't.

Well the song wouldn't have any effect now but in the past it probly did. The reason I'd say it wouldn't have any effect is because were in a new time an some people don't really know them. And were looking for songs that are hip. So what im trying to say is that in the past it would have been effective because thats what people liked back then but now it wouldn't because we don't listen to them rapers anymore.

i don't think that it was effective because people would just here it but wont act to it or change because if they want a pair of nikes then they will go rob some one for they nikes thats what i think

Troy,

You believe that youth of today will not think twice because these artists are no longer popular.

Chris you finally said my message to those bad people out in the streets. Even though fist is still violence, death is worse.

in the song self destruction the message was for people to stop fighting and come together thats what I think it was about. yes and no because some people might listen to it and understand what the artist are saying.and no some people probably will listen but will not do wat they are saying.

I heard that there shouldn't be black on black crime that people all wys find ways to do vilnce and how we should talk to one another instead of fight. i think it is affect because i notice how everybody was engaged in the music vedio mostly likly it wouldn't change alot of people maybe people who probbly just started doing crime who people who actually want to stop and now has a reason because they were affected by the song or maybe people eho feel sorry for the crime they did and finnally stop cause the were touched by the song.So inother words it might be affective to like teen s or young kids who never think twice and this song affected them

Kelly i do not understand what you are trying to say could you explain

one thing I heard in that song was "I never ever ran from the kkk and I shouldn't have to run from a black man. The way that stood out to me is same races are killing each other over stupid things like chains, shoes, hats, etc... why do that when you can work for it it feels better working for your things than steeling them you may think you big and bad at that point but what happens when one day you get caught who's going to be the big and bad one when your behind bars with 100's of other people that have been in jail for years. And your new what are you going to do huh tough guy? I think the song was effective because it had all of the famous people from back in the day including Flavor Flav, Heavy D, Mc Lyte, Krs-one, etc... so if you see someone on tv that is popular and is trying to get out a message the people are probably going to listen. That is my perspective

it didn't give no effect because we still have VIOLENCE!

Jackson said...

Yes Amber! Part of their message was that Hip Hop should not be blamed for the violence in the streets. They chose particular rap artists so send this message because they were respectable.

i think i made it can make a lot of people stop the violence because if they no that rappers think the violence is alright they are going to comitt to violence but if rappers think violence is not alright thee the public won't disturt to violences

Randy 8e said...

Julian are you trying to say that you should stand your ground and fight or not to fear anyone?

Anonymous said...

i think they where saying that they were mad that there was so many black on black crimes going on for ex: he said they did not have to run from the k.k.k so why they have to run from an black man. well this is just a messages music so i don't know if they will change but i know that they my think twice about but they may not chang there was because of an song because most of the people are already brain washed with all of the things that are going on now an many are in t deep to just let song change there was

I don't really think that song was very affective. When I heard the song almost all I worried about was how dope the beat to the song was and what famous rapper was in it. I think back in the day of Ms. Jackson's day I think people would only listen to this song just to listen to a cool beat and to just to dance to it. I didn't really think much of the lyrics because the were going a little fast with the rhymes so the song was not as affective because of the way they presented it.

What I heard in the "Stop the Violence song" was a message through music. When i said that what I heard was a cause that they wanted to fix.i think it wasn't that much effective because look at today there still gangs and stuff but it got a whole lot better because nobody stole my shoe and will not ever. Some people will hear the song and think twice about but not all because some people are just ignorant.

Randy....THE SONG IS NOT THAT OLD...I AM NOT THAT OLD...I TOLD YOU THAT THE SONG CAME OUT WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL!

The message i heard in the "Stop the violence" song was that the black brother were stealing from each other. It was talking about all the violence blacks had back in the day. It said that they don kill their relatives. I think that meant that they shouldn't kill each other. I think it might have been effective back in the day but if you put this song on the radio or bring it back i don't think it would help because situation changed and right now there must be more problem's than back in the day. I think people might think about committing the crime but i think they would still do it because they are to ignorant.

Oops i didnt know

Shermarke isn't gangsta rap always violent? Well all kinds of rap can be violent. I mean some.

Ms.Jackson
I don't think the youth will really care.Because they people putting out music at that time isn't the same people who the youth look up to.They will need current rappers to put out a movement for the youth to really take it seriously.Or at least people of there age group so they can see that people there age are tired of the violence.

To: Troy

The rappers were famous back then back but not a lot of people really listened to the lyrics because most people just used the song as something to dance to.

Jackson said...

Kelly,
Do you think that music with a message helps people?

I HEARD "NOT NEGATIVE CAUSE THE WAY WE LIVE IS POSITIVE WE DON'T KILL OR RELATIVES". IN MY POINT OF VIEW ONLY A LITTLE HAS CHANGED. VIOLENCE STILL ACCURE'S ETHER SOME ONE GETING SHOT IN THE STREET'S OR SOME ONE ROBING A BANK. AS I SAID NOT MUCH HAS CHANGED. THE PEOPLE WHO COMMIT CRIMES DOESN'T SEEM LIKE THEY CARE. THEY WOULD ROB A BANK AND GO TO PRISON FOR LIFE THEN NOT DO ANY THING VIOLENT.

Anonymous said...

i think people are still doing this things are because they don't care about who is getting hurt or who hearts are broken and the people that lisent to the song and agree should do something about it for the people that did not lisen to the song.

Anonymous said...

yes I do think it might help people because by people hearing the song it might change there opinion.
